You know it is difficult to improve something without measuring it first ! Our minds can’t comprehend anything vague and undefined. It just stays there in some corner of our brains like a discomfort, simply because it is unmeasurable and unclear. Our brain doesn’t take it up as a priority and at the same time doesn’t also do away with it, much like shoving dust under the carpet. Now, I bet you would love to know how happy you are against these indicators given by experts. I have compiled a list from various sources that will help you get a clear picture of the kind of life you are living right now.
Here is a list of parameters against which we can measure our HAPPINESS in a most comprehensible manner —
- POSITIVE EMOTION– Do you feel emotions like joy, gratitude and hope on a daily basis? These translate into smiling, laughing, thanking and feeling excited about something. It also means that you have enough energy throughout the day.
- ENGAGEMENT– How often in day you are absolutely absorbed in the work you are doing without that mind chatter? This is what is called the experience of ‘flow’ or being completely one with what you are doing.
- RELATIONSHIPS–This has to do with your environment. How authentic and supportive are your connections? How do you feel being with the people around you? Is there a strong sense of belonging or do you judge and feel judged ? Do you feel the warmth of their presence or cold vibes?
- MEANING– Are you doing anything that is larger and beyond yourself. Creating something of value for others?
- ACCOMPLISHMENT– Do you have any goals? Do you enjoy a sense of accomplishment, be it in the little everyday tasks or in doing something that is meaningful for you?
Now, I am sure that just by going through the above pointers you must have had a reality check of your happiness status. Whatever be your score, the good thing is that today at least you have made an assessment for the most important component of your life ..HAPPINESS. And remember what gets measured gets improved because measuring brings it to the front of our brains and we can get ready to take some real action.
